A few months ago I was asked to do some photographs for Your Home & Garden Magazine at a local garden centre. Claire, a member of the garden centre staff, was a great model. It is always lovely to see my work in glossy print especially when it's on the front cover of a magazine.

Going Green - Part 4 - Harvest

October is my favourite month of the year, Autumn kicks in, my Birthday finally arrives and this year October meant Harvest time! I was very excited to harvest all the veg I had worked hard to grow this year, I am particularly proud of my carrots (some of which were grown in my old wellies)

This is the final part of my 'Going Green' series for this year but I have grand plans for my veg patch next year so stay tuned!

Levi and Romeo

Photo Restorations

I love old photographs, I could sit for hours looking through boxes of my Grans family photos, but it makes me sad to see them in such a bad state. Years of being passed around families, folded up and chopped to fit into frames really takes its tole on our photographs. I find it a very rewarding job to be able to restore these images and let them live another day.

With every image I am given by a client comes a story relating to it and listening to them has to be without a doubt my favourite bit of the job.

I have never blogged any of my restoration work before, I don't know why, but this will change from now on. Below are just a few of the ones I have completed so far.

P.Y.O Farm Visit

Until last month I had never been to a Pick Your Own Fruit and Veg Farm and was very much looking forward to my first visit to one. I took more photographs than I did fruit and veg but it was a lovely trip and the perfect Sunday morning activity.

A few weeks ago, when it still felt like summer, I had a portrait shoot booked in with Lauren. We headed down to a field near my home which has been left to grow wild and is full of poppies and wild flowers. It is a beautiful location and I knew it would be ideal for Laurens shoot. The light was just perfect and it was one of those shoots which reminded me why I adore my job so much. Below are a selection of my favourite images.

Going Green - Part 2 & 3

I didn't get a chance to blog my 'Going Green' images for June so this post is a double whammy of June and July's images. If you missed 'Part 1' read it here.

Things have really been growing and for a newbie gardener like me this is very exciting!

My runner beans outgrew their 5 foot canes, I sowed some carrot seeds and they started growing (a miracle) and my courgettes are unstoppable!

The dainty flowers on my runner beans have given way to loads of tasty looking beans (yet to be eaten), I bought a mint plant which smells delicious, I'm getting used to all the wildlife which joins me while I'm gardening, my tomato plants have flowers and it seems I can grow something from seed - Carrots!

Next month I'll hopefully be harvesting a lot of items including a huge marrow!

Deborah Morgan - Solstice Astrology

Cats Protection and Steve Miller

I was asked by the Stourbridge and District section of the Cats Protection to take some images for their 'I'm A Celebrity......Let Me Volunteer' campaign. The celeb joining Hayley and Rob, already volunteers at the Cats Protection, was Steve Miller from Sky 1's 'Fat Families'. Hayley had some great cat related tasks for Steve to get stuck into, feeding, cleaning and playing with Socks, Cookie and Tiger, all lovely moggies who have been rescued by the Cats Protection. Steve also worked at the Stourbridge Cats Protection shop serving customers and stocking shelves before ending the day with a well earned tea break! Steve and the team at the Cats protection were all great to work with and below are just a few of the images from the shoot.

Toby the Shetland Sheepdog

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of photographing Toby, a really gorgeous Shetland Sheepdog. Toby is very shy but was a real star in front of the camera. Tiggi the cat got in on the action too and I just love the image of them together. As usual a few of my favourites from the session for your viewing pleasure.

Going Green

Last year I tried to grow vegetables from seed - I failed miserably and the only thing I did manage to grow was a sunflower and I didn't really do a lot to help it. This year I decided I would start a fresh and try again - no seeds this year! I am excited at the prospect of growing things and being able to munch on them a short time later. Being able to photograph them is an added bonus for me and an opportunity not to be missed!

In February I had the pleasure of photographing Sam, who was 8 months pregnant. The session was great fun and Sam was feeling on top of the world. The nursery was ready and waiting for the new arrival and I couldn't resist capturing some of the lovely details. A month or so later Sam gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Kathryn Jane. Below are just a few of my favourite images from the two sessions and I look forward to photographing Kathryn again in 6 months time.

'Your Wedding' Magazine Spread #2

In February 'Your Wedding' Magazine published a piece about Kate Slater Textiles who I worked with last year. The piece was really well received and it was lovely for me to see my images in print.

The magazine obviously couldn't get enough of Kate's fabulous work and decided to run another piece about her. I shot a few more images of Kate and her studio specifically for the article and we waited with baited breath to see the final spread in the April/May edition of the magazine.

Kate's studio (which she has now moved out of) reflected her artistic flare and I loved capturing the details hidden within it. Below are a few of my favourite images.

Perfect Pooches

Today sees the start of Crufts 2011 - the biggest dog show in the world, held at the NEC in Birmingham! Hundreds of dogs will be groomed to perfection and competing for 1st place in a range of classes. I love photographing dogs and if there is one thing I have learnt from doing so it's that these animals are not just family pets, they are family members and best friends. Each dog has its own character and these shine through in the images. Whether large or small they are great fun to work with and the images never fail to make me smile. I had a hard time trying to decide which images to include, below are a few of my favourites and without a doubt each dog is worthy of 'Best in Show'.

Vintage Cameras

About 5 years ago, while having a sort out, my Mum found an old Kodak Duaflex 2. It was her camera when she was younger and knowing that I would love it she passed it on to me. The Duaflex 2 was made during the 1950's and is a fabulous looking camera. I haven't taken any photographs with it yet although I hope to in the future.

A few years later I visited an antiques shop and amongst the treasures I found a Kodak No. 2 Folding Autographic Brownie. It was in its original case and as I opened up the camera I fell in love. The camera was made between 1915 and 1926. It really is an amazing looking camera and whenever I use it I always have people asking about it. It's great to shoot with and I have several films still to develop from using it.

Just last week I was given a Kodak Six-20 Brownie Model C. It was my boyfriends Dads old camera and he very kindly passed it on to me. This model was made between 1946 and 1953. Its a great looking camera and I hope to take photographs with it in the future!

Although small I love my collection of antique cameras and I hope to add more to it in the future. Until recently they sat in their cases in a wardrobe but I have now put them on display in my image viewing room, they make great ornaments! I am always on the look out for old cameras and I love adopting unwanted and no longer used models!

'Your Wedding' Magazine Spread

Last year I worked with Kate Slater Textiles photographing her latest collection including lace pieces and fascinators. Kate promotes much of this side of her work (she also makes interior products and kids clothes) to brides wanting a bespoke, handmade piece to compliment their wedding outfit. Your Wedding magazine (West Midlands edition) loved Kates work, how could they not, and wrote a little piece about her in their February/March edition. I was very excited to find out they were using some of my images to showcase her work and couldn't wait to see them in print.

Beckett - The Great Dane

At the beginning of December last year, when there was just a light covering of snow, I had a canine session booked which I was particularily excited about. The largest dog I had photographed up to that point was a labrador, however this shoot was about to top that. Beckett, 8 months old and full of energy, is a blue Great Dane and what a beautiful dog he is. This was easily my most difficult canine session as Beckett did not want to sit and stay, he was much more interested in running around and eating snow! Bumps and Babies

Out with the old and in with the New Year!

2011 has brought a few changes to my business, and we're only a week into it. I decided towards the end of 2010 I wanted to have a bit of a New Year spruce up and particularly have a new logo designed. I could think of no one better than Steve at Spaghetti Creative in Birmingham to take charge of designing me a lovely new logo. I couldn't be happier with it - Thanks Steve!

Regular readers of my blog will notice this has changed quite a bit too. Gone is the old background and in its place a more simple contemporary look which will allow my images to really speak for themselves.

Celebrate Success Awards

Earlier this year I was nominated for The Prince's Trust Young Achiever of the Year award. I was so pleased to have been nominated and was even more so when I found out I had made it through to the Regional Finals along with two other nominees. On November 24th The Prince's Trust West Midlands Celebrate Success Awards were held at Villa Park in Birmingham. It was a great event and there were nearly 20 young people in the running for just 7 awards. Unfortunately I didn't win the Regional title but I was over the moon to have been a Regional Finalist. I recently had the pleasure of working with a local textile artist whose work was fabulous to photograph. Kate Slater, who has a studio at The Red House Glass Cone in Wordsley, Stourbidge, produces a range of textile products including childrens wear, interior furnishings, headpieces and lace shawls. Hampton Court Flower Show

Last month I took a trip down to London and visited Hampton Court Flower Show. It was a scorching hot day and some of the poor plants were struggling a bit in the heat but despite this it was a fantastic day out. The gardens came in all shapes and sizes, some quite simple while others were a little more wacky. I had a great time wandering around and it made for a great day out. Of course I couldn't help but take some photographs during the day, below are just a few of my favourites.

The Prince's Trust Young Ambassador Lunch

I started my photographic business in April 2009 with support from The Prince's Trust and in December 2009 I was lucky enough to be chosen to become a Young Ambassador. It was a role I had wanted to take on since first becoming involved with The Prince's Trust and one I take very seriously. As a Young Ambassador I attend, and often speak at, events which promote the amazing and varied work of The Trust. I am an inspirational speaker on the Business Programme training course and talk to the attendees about my experiences in business. On July 5th this year I was invited to The Young Ambassador Lunch at St James's Palace in London. The lunch was a celebration of the work Young Ambassadors do all over the country. It was a privilege to attend this event and I had the great honor of meeting Prince Charles. It was a fantastic experience and one I would never have had without being involved with The Prince's Trust. Kiss Me Cupcakes

I had great fun working with the girls at Kiss Me Cupcakes last month. Shooting during a busy morning baking in the kitchen allowed me to capture some great dynamic images. Seeing the cupcakes being made from start to finish was fantastic and made for a great range of images. Mary and Dalvinder, owners of Kiss Me Cupcakes are true cupcake artists and their cakes photographed like a dream! I was lucky enough to sample their cupcakes and they are truly delicious! Brierley Hill Pony Trail

I have been lucky enough to be involved in a great local arts event this year put on by Dudley Performing Arts. The Brierley Hill Pony Trail takes its inspiration from 'King Bladud's Pigs' sculpture trail in Bath. The Brierley Hill trail will be made up of 30 pony sculptures, each one decorated by a local school working with a local artist. I had the pleasure of working with children at Brierley Hill Primary School and their art teacher Miss Bridgewood. Our pony named "Pony Parade" is inspired by the many uses and relatives (real and mythical) of horses and ponies. The artistic talent of the boys and girls in the Arts Academy at Brierley Hill Primary is mind blowing, their ideas were fantastic and their enthusiasm for the project was unstoppable! I enjoyed every afternoon I spent with them! The Pony Trail is being launched at the DPA Summer Festival on Saturday 3rd July at Himley Hall. The ponies will be put in place along the trail route in Brierley Hill from 12th July and will be officially opened on Saturday 24th July. Badminton Horse Trials

Last month I went to Badminton Horse Trials. After 15 years of riding myself I was excited to see the greats doing their thing. I went for the Cross Country day and saw at least one horse and rider jump every fence. There are 31 fences in total ranging in size and difficulty. Congratulations to Aussie rider Paul Tapner who won! It was an amazing day, if a little muddy, and I never put my camera down. I wanted to share just a small selection of the images I took on the day.
